Luke Dimech rejoins Valletta

Luke Dimech

Valletta FC concluded negotians with 35 year old international defender Luke Dimech. Luke agreed to re-join Valletta for a second spell as both club’s reached an agreement over his transfer till the end of the season.

Dimech was on the books of Valletta four years after he was suspended till the end of season 2009/10 following an unanimous decision by the committee re incidents during the match played on 23rd of April vs Sliema Wanderers, later on Luke made a public apology for his reaction.

BOV Premier League Champions Valletta are stepping up their efforts to strengthen their defence, also in view of the injury-related absences of Jonathan Caruana and Steve Borg, both out with knee problems.

Luke started his career with Sliema W. FC, in 2002 he moved to Ireland and joined Shamrock Rovers. In 2003 Dimech had a short spell with Birkirkara FC. Luke moved to England in August 2003 and joined Mansfield Town. In 2005 Dimech joined Chester City and in 2006 he returned to Malta and joined Marsaxlokk FC.

The international defender returned to Maltese football last summer following a successful two-year spell with Cypriot club AEK Larnaca, Dimech has re-established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League, so much so that he has been an automatic choice for the national team under the guidance of Pietro Ghedin.

On behalf of www.vallettafc.net we would like to wish a warm welcome to Luke within our squad.
